What Art Seminars can we expect to see/participate in this year?

The schedule for Art Seminars is currently unavailable . We will update the schedules as events are finalized and artists firm up their plans during the year, and a final schedule will be posted when it is ready.

Can I put a price for my prints on my originals in the Art Show?

The prices that you put on each piece of art MUST BE THE PRICE FOR THAT PIECE. If you do not wish to sell your originals, or if you want to sell your originals for what you think they’re worth, then you put the appropriate price/NFS tag on the piece in question. However, if you wish to put up a small sign next to the originals stating that you have less expensive prints for sale in the Artist’s Alley, you may certainly do so.

What happens if I cannot pick up my art from the Art Show on Sunday?

Any art that is not claimed by the time the art show is cleared out will be taken for safe keeping by the Art Show Coordinator. HOWEVER, neither the coordinator nor Nan Desu Kan assume liability or responsibility for any art that is left unclaimed by the artist.

Anyone who needs to pick up unclaimed art after the show will need to make arrangements the week following the show. You can contact the Art and Model Show head by email, or by snail mail:

Do you currently accept mail-in art for the Art Show?

As of right now, I’m afraid not. Mail-in entries may be accepted for future shows, and as soon as that starts happening you will see information regarding this on these art show pages.

When does judging take place, and who judges the art in the Art Show?

Judging for the art show takes place Saturday after closing. Judges are selected prior to the show, and all decisions of the judges are final.

Can I photograph art in the Art Show?

Nobody under any circumstances is allowed to simply walk in and photograph art in the art show. All artwork is the sole copyright of each individual artist, and allowing general photography would infringe on certain copyright laws. We will grant exceptions to those who are both in the presence of the art staff as well as the artist with whom has given consent (or if with written consent, signed by the artist) to photograph that artist’s art.

What prizes can we expect to see if we win an award in the Art Show?

I can’t really answer that because of two things: 1) we usually do not have prizes until right before the convention, and 2) not every art show category has a prize. Our sponsors have given us great prizes in the past, and the prize donations differ from year to year. We also kind of like to surprise people!

Do you allow mature art in the Art Show?

In a word, no. Any submissions depicting adult/mature situations or those of a suggestively mature nature are not allowed at this time. We do have quite a few young attendees at Nan Desu Kan, and we do not as yet have a private viewing place for adult/mature art.

Do I have to register/buy a convention pass in order to enter art into the Art Show?

Anyone wishing to participate in the Art Show must register for a convention membership or purchase a membership at the door in order to do so. This also applies to Agents acting on behalf of the Artists that they represent. Anyone who does not have at least a 1-day pass will not be permitted to enter art into the show.

What kind of art is allowed in the Art Show?

Submissions will be accepted from science fiction and fantasy as well as anime genres. We have also had a wide range of art in many mediums at previous shows. One entrant at NDK5 entered her homemade dolls inspired by anime shows!
