Kicking off March With a Monster Update

Tagged with: , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

It is 6 months until NDK 2007, but there is still plenty of things for you to do. Although not all of it is convention specific, it will still keep you occupied and prepare you for the big 3 days. In this announcement there are art, cosplay and knowledge to put on display.

Anime artistry contest

It is probably to get the official Kan business taken care of first in this post. That is what this site is for officially.

If you are an avid participant in the forum, you may have noticed our Art & Model Show coordinator, Barbara, has posted the rules for the annual Anime Artistry Contest.

Every year this gives you the chance for convention fame. If you win, you get your work posted in the Nan Desu Kan Convention Guide. On top of that, you get free passes to the 2008 convention. There are a few more details, so be sure to read the rules.

Weekend Challenges

In an effort to stimulate the artistic community even more, our webmaster, Al, has started having weekend challenges in the forum. There have been a few already and at the time of this post, there is another underway.

You won’t win anything from NDK, but that is not the point of the challenges. It is about discovering your talents and fine tuning them. So if you like to draw, and want a fairly informal setting to push yourself along with others, join in!.

Cosplay Resources

On the last day of February, forum resident JAIMONSTER posted a giant list of cosplay resources. In the past few days, it has gotten even bigger. The maximum post size on the forum has to be increased just to accommodate it.

This should be a great resource for all cosplayers and especially the locals. The list continues to grow with any suggestions that you may have. Just post what you think will be helpful and JAIMONSTER will update the main list.

Japan Bowl

Now for some local event goodness. There will be a test of Japanese knowledge happening at the University of Denver this month on the 31st.

This event was brought to our attention by Kawada Setsu (the same person teaching the before mentioned Japanese course). Here is the email describing the event:

There will be an event “Japan Bowl” (Japan Trivia Competition- all Colorado and
neighboring states) coming up on March 31 (Sat) at University of Denver.

Here is the info page : http://www.jascolorado.org/events_2007_Japan_Bowl.htm

The preliminary rounds will take place from 9:15am to 11:30am and the final round will begin 12:15pm to 4:00pm and this year all sessions (both morning and afternoon) will be open to the public.

(Level: High school 1, 2, 3 and college)

This should be a fun event and informative also. Before the event, there will be a display showing the Japanese culture. This is definitely a must for the knowledge starved.
