Welcome to another year of the NDK Anime Music Video Contest. Please be sure to read through all of these rules before submitting your video as we have made a few slight changes from last year. We continue to make small changes from year to year, in order to fine tune this event to make it simply the best AMV event of the year. This year we are focusing on submission simplicity and better communication with our editors as to the status of their submissions. But before all that, a few important things to keep in mind, please remember that submitting a video is not a right. We expect to have an overwhelming number of entries this year, and there simply will not be enough time to show them all. We are currently working on expanding our AMV programs to show as many as we can, but there just isn’t enough time in the weekend to show them all along with our other events. Also keep in mind that we are aware that some mistakes can be made, both on the editor’s end and our own. If any mistakes are made on either end, we have given ourselves enough time to be able to work with you to correct any such mistakes before the con begins.
So now onto the rules!
- Do not send us your only copy of your video, as it will not be returned to you. There will simply be too many entries and editors to also add shipping videos back to our list of things to do.
- You may send up to 3 videos to this contest.
- All videos may not have been submitted to any prior NDK AMV event.
- There is no set time limit for length of any video
- Videos may not include any scenes of extreme graphic or sexual content. We do understand that this is an anime con, and some artistic content will be permitted, but the judging staff reserves the right to disqualify any video they deem in poor taste.
- Specific times and dates for AMV events will be announced at a later date.
- Special seating arrangements will be made for attending editors, also to be determined at a later date.
- NDK AMV staff reserves the right to make changes to these rules as we see fit at any time.
Submission Due Date
All videos must be in the hands of the AMV Staff by midnight, August 25th, 2007. If for some reason you cannot make this deadline, you must make prior arrangements with the AMV staff before this date or your entry will not qualify.
Judging and awards
Once again, the world famous “Asuka’s” will be the awards handed out to our top winners of this event. Awards will be given in the following categories
- Category X – Best use of artist vision and complex style.
- Action/Adventure – Best use of movement and pace
- Drama/Romance – Best use of emotion and feeling
- Comedy/Parody – Best use of well… just simply funny or amusing
The audience will vote by ballot for their favorite video in each category, Along with their choice for best in show video. Best of show awards will also be awarded by the AMV judging staff, and by the attending AMV editors.
There will also be a special award presented for the best video using Video Game footage; this video can be awarded from any category.
Editors do not need to be present at the con in order to win or receive an award.
Title Bumpers
Please do not include title bumpers to your videos. Title bumpers are defined as anything before or after the video itself that says what the video is, or who made it. We will be adding uniform title bumpers to each video shown in the contest. If your video is submitted with a title bumper, the NDK AMV staff reserves the right to edit out the bumper to comply with our standards. We have a tremendous amount of experience in this matter so there is little room to worry, but it is best that you make these cuts yourself rather than have us do it.

All video submissions must be accompanied with appropriate video and editor contact information. Failure to providing full information can lead to disqualification of one or all of your videos. Please provide the following information.

- Title of the Video

There are two methods in which you may send in your entries
Mail your entry in on CD or DVD disc. If you mail your entry in by disc, please keep them in file format, not in a DVD Movie format. Entries can be mailed to:
Scott “Anime” Peterson
C/o Nan Desu Kan
4033 San Juan ave #215
Fair Oaks, Ca 95628
You may also submit your entries on-line by our upload site. Go to http://dropbox.yousendit.com/artemisanime and upload your video there. Please provide all of the necessary contact information in the comments section of the site, but please also send a copy of your contact information to me at musicvideo@ndkdenver.org. This way to ensure receipt of your entries.
Also please note which contest you are entering, as we host many AMV events from this site.
Video Formats
We would prefer that your file arrives as either a MPEG or AVI. If you choose to select a format that is different from the two listed please send us an e-mail at musicvideo@ndkdenver.org to confirm that it will work with our system. Please when exporting your files stay within official resolutions (horizontal of 720, 704, 640, 352 and vertical of 480, 240 for NTSC and 576,288 for PAL), and with stereo or mono audio. As nice as 5.1 surround is we are unable to acquire a satisfactory sound system able to handle seamless playback of 5.1 (AC3, DTS, and MPEG-2 Audio)
Please choose one of the following resolutions, and scale your video up to it. 720×480, 704×480, 640×480, 352×480, 352×240, or 320×240
We have a lot of hard drive space available and would rather sacrifice size over quality, so please do not be afraid to send us the best quality video you have, we are projecting on screens over 20 feet wide and we want your video to look as good as much as you do.
Please, however, do not submit any videos that include subtitles or other logos, not associated with the video. (Example: Cartoon Network logo, or subtitles from a Fan-Sub) If you make a subtitle or logo yourself that serves a purposeful use on the video that is fine.
